Bollyjess Woo Hoo

Well, it's official: I'm crazy for Bollywood. My friends and family think I'm out of my mind, but I don't care at all. I can't get enough!!! So I decided to chronicle my adventures in Bollywood here, as a way to vent my insanity, review a few movies and/or connect to other Bollywood fans.

It all started last summer, when my cousin convinced me to watch a Bollywood movie. It was late in the evening, after several glasses of wine, and b/c it was summer and I was still in the throes of jetlag, I agreed. I'd always been vaguely curious about the whole Bollywood THING. So she showed me Main Hoon Na.


What can I say? I was enthralled. Little did I know I was watching Shahruhk Khan, otherwise known as "King Khan," the undisputed King of the industry... I just knew that the movie was AWESOME. Cheesy in the BEST way, hilarious, adorable, action-packed, ridiculous...I couldn't stop watching. I wanted more.

So she showed me Dil Chahta Hai, and that was the end. I went right over the edge into complete Bolly addiction. Blame Aamir Khan. I do. His appeal took awhile to hit me, as his role in the movie takes time to develop. But by the time he was singing Jaane Kyon to Preity Zinta I was starting to feel giddy, and when he showed her fiance his hand....well. Nobody-- NOBODY has eyes like Aamir Khan. I don't think I touched the ground for a week after that.

And so here I am. A lone Bolly fan in California. Is there anybody out there?
